WINTER MARKET HOP
Because fro-yo and pressed juices just don’t fly when the temperature drops... Our prescription for beating
the winter blues is a market hop of sheer foodie decadence, featuring sugar, pastry and caffeine – and lots of it.
Get ready to loosen up those jeans.
SUBI FARMERS MARKETS
Eat | Apple Tart from Wild Bakery. The breadstuffs originating from a hole-in-the-wall bakery in South Freo
are so moreish that they’re winning gongs nationally. Can we have two and count them towards our daily
fruit servings, please?
Drink | Chai tea from Chai Baba. Apple paired with cinnamon? It’s a no-brainer.
Eat | Almond croissant from Abhi’s. Bad flaky: your friend who bails on you when you’re already on the way
to see them. Good flaky: these rich pastries that ooze almond frangipane, butter and general delicious-ness.
Who needs friends anyway?
Drink | A latte from Black Cherries Espresso. Made with local Darkstar coffee, this is the type of coffee that will
turn you into a wanky connoisseur, spouting comparisons to chocolate and berries. It’s that good.
GROWERS GREEN FARMERS MARKETS IN SOUTH FREO
Eat | Chewy Salted Butter Caramels from Froggy Food. Is it just us, or is salted caramel the flavour du jour?
Scratch that – it’s our flavour de la vie. We instinctively trust any food that’s been made by a Real Live French
Person, and these salty-sweet squares don’t disappoint. Pick up a jar of the salted caramel butter too, to continue
the caramel party back home.
Drink | One of the cappuccinos from Steph’s Coffee Shack. They’re so smooth that you’ll be speaking in pick-up
lines for the rest of the day.
Are we the only ones blushing at the names of these local
hot sauces? Oh, my.
BONPUSSY | Jamaican for hot sauce, this fiery concoction
is made in Cockburn (yes, the fun continues) and is sold at
gourmet delis around Perth. Wonder how many prangs the
BonPussy Smart Car has caused on Perth roads...
Where to buy Growers Green Markets, South Fremantle
C-BOMB | Perth local Renae Bunney created her irreverent
hot sauces after returning home from a trip to Mexico. The
sauce comes in three heat levels: medium, bloody hot and
‘The F-Bomb’ (an apt name, we can attest), made with ghost
and scorpion chillis.
Where to buy Urban Locavore at MANY 6160, Fremantle
TOO HOT TO TOUCH | Born in Angola, raised in Portugal
and now living in Perth, local chef Armanda Da Luz has
cooked in The Esplanade Hotel, Matilda Bay Restaurant and
the Tradewinds Hotel. Her vegan hot sauces feature African
flavours and searing heat.
Where to buy Fresh Provisions, Bicton
