Well, it ain’t glamorous, we’ll give you that, but a lush flowering
garden and juicy home-harvested fruit sure are. Decaying
matter has never looked better. Perth City Farm, Thursdays.
ACTING EVENING COURSE
The one thing that stops us from taking an acting class is fear of
over-the-top actors – you know, the types that speak in affected
singsong and gesture histrionically. So we couldn’t be more
relieved to learn the first rule of this class is ‘no acting, please’.
FOOD & WINE
That ‘brush script’ font isn’t
fooling anyone. Enrol in this
course and resurrect the
dying art of cursive – your
love letters will take on
added whimsy, and you can
even pen your own wedding
invitations. Pfft, who said
handwriting was dead?
CABERNET & CANVAS
What better way to get
your creative juices flowing
than with the aid of some
fermented grape juice?

ARTS & CRAFTS
Some like it hot, but others like it downright steamy.
If you’re in the latter camp, get thee to a Bikram
Yoga class, where you’ll practice poses in 38-degree
heat. Sweating yet? Just wait til you see the freakishly
attractive teachers. Perth Bikram Yoga, ongoing.
Yes, finally an excuse to use the flamenco dancer
emoji! Crack out the castanets and that ruffled red
dress for this come-hither Spanish dance. The Dance
Workshop, from Apr 28.
So maybe we’ve seen Lords of Dogtown a couple times
too many, but who can blame us? Skaters are just so
cool. These classes are age-indiscriminate, so it’s not too
late to embrace your inner Sk8er Boi or Gurl (just play
Avril softly if you want to hang onto that street cred).
YMCA Youth HQ, Saturdays.
DESIGN & PRINT YOUR OWN
Do your kids see trips to Kikki K and Smiggle the way you
see a trip to the day spa? For those who love stationery-
induced zen, this class, taught by a stylish Frenchie, will
be nothing short of euphoria. Beau est Mien, Apr 22.
Got inspired by those sexy burlesque shows at Fringe,
huh? Us, too. We can’t wait to try this class, which has
moves inspired by the Moulin Rouge and Zurich’s
Cabaret Voltaire. Saucy. Lady Velvet Cabaret,
Apr 28-Jul 18.
Though we were a little
disappointed to learn
Mickey Mouse and a lively
broom wouldn’t be making
an appearance, when we
saw the cake that gets made
in this class, all was forgiven.
Imagine a two-tiered red
velvet cake, slathered in
rich ganache, adorned
with chocolate ribbons and
edible roses... Is this page
covered in drool yet? Sweet
Artist Academy, Apr 28.
Do you feel your waiter’s
wrath each time you request
a gluten-free meal? Simple
solution: learn to make
your own repertoire of
sans the stomach-gurgling
stuff. Judgey stares begone!
The Cooking Professor,
As you lay down a twenty (no change) for your espresso martini, have you ever
begrudgingly thought ‘I could make that’? Well now you can, with this course that
teaches cocktail sorcery. Afterwards, go ahead and put ‘mixologist’ on your resume.
We won’t judge. The Quarie Bar and Brasserie, second Monday of the month.
The pretension-free workshop is taken by an award-winning
playwright/actor/ WAAPA lecturer. Phew! FTI, Apr 14-May 19.
Planning a trip to the FIFA World Cup this year, held in
sunny Brazil? Well, you’d better get a wriggle on and start
your Portuguese lessons, hadn’t you? It’s a bit of an unusual
second language to learn, but it shouldn’t be – it’s the sixth
most widely spoken language and the official tongue in eight
countries. Multicultural Language Centre, ongoing.
a glass of vino in hand,
under the guidance of
a local artist. Guess that
means we’ll get a free pass
on the sloppy brushwork!
Cabernet & Canvas, Apr 18.
Stop! Don’t you dare give
your mum Roses chocolates
and a gift voucher for
Mother’s Day again. Instead,
take her to these delightfully
crafty classes where you’ll
metal jewellery together,
then partake in a high tea.
StudiOH!, May 17-18.
