NEW TO THE SCENE
• Lovers of the CBD’s Vietnamese restaurant
Mama Tran have are going to like this: a second
venue has recently opened on Murray Street.
More pho for everyone!
• Leederville’s burger lovers face an agonising dilemma:
ol’ faithful Jus Burgers or spanking new Grill’d that’s
opened on the corner of Newcastle and Oxford streets?
• Speaking of burgers, there’s a new Missy Moos at The
Mezz in Mt Hawthorn and The Shack has just opened
a new venue in Scarborough.
• Margaret River’s new Sugarman has won us over:
the unique espresso bar slash gallery/office/fashion
boutique is offering customers free coffee on
Saturdays between 9:30-10:30am.
EAT DRINK REPEAT
Loosen your belts, Perth, it’s time to eat! Perth’s annual
foodie event Eat Drink Perth, spanning the entire month
of April, is set to be the best yet thanks to a calendar
packed with returning crowd pleasers and a few exciting
new events including meatball eating competitions,
a waiter race (yes, really) and a kids cooking class at
Jamie’s Italian. To top it off is the inaugural Taste of
Perth, a weekend-long pop-up restaurant festival.
Diners purchase ‘Crowns’ (the currency of Taste of
Perth) which are then used to buy dishes and drinks
from the stalls run by local restaurants including
Print Hall, Nobu, The Greenhouse, El Publico,
Silks and Bistro Guillaume. Artisan stalls, cooking
demonstrations, wine tastings and live entertainment
will also be part of the fun. Running until May 4,
• Chiquis is Leederville’s new Mexican eatery
specialising in cheapo tequila cocktails and tapas.
Open till 2am on Friday and Saturday nights, it’s
perfect for a late-night feed.
• Freo’s beloved Raw Kitchen has moved from its
squashed quarters in the South Terrace Piazza to
a much larger converted warehouse on High Street.
Aside from their beautiful raw food available daily
for breakfast, lunch and dinners, The Raw Kitchen
is offering yoga classes and raw food workshops on
its mezzanine level.
• Hush Espresso has moved too, heading to much larger
premises on the western end of High Street opposite
Love in Tokyo, and rebranding as Big Daddy Hush.
