THE CONTEMPORARY: THE DUCK HOUSE
This theatre company’s vision is to explore universal
human emotions through humour, tragedy and
an element of surprise.
THE KID-FRIENDLY: SPARE PARTS
Although puppets are usually reserved for kids, this
theatre company appeals to the child in all of us.
THE POLITICALLY CONSCIOUS:
With their last show, A Raging Election,
showcasing the oddities of Australian politics,
this team’s satirical humour is a big hit.
THE PROLIFIC: WEEPING
This company does not limit itself strictly to stage
theatre, but enhances their productions through
film and animation – and is gaining international
recognition in the process.
THE OVERHAULERS: NORTH
SEA BOAT TERMINALS
With two plays by the Bard under their belt already,
this theatre group is impressing audiences
with just how accessible and refreshing their
Shakespeare productions are.
Break a Leg
If you feel like the stage is calling your name, maybe it’s time to dip your toes into
the wonderful world of amateur theatre. Nearly every suburb in Perth has an amateur
theatre scene but some of our favourites are the very inclusive Endeavour Theatre
Company and Stirling Players Inc. If you want to brush up on your acting skills before
hitting the stage, try Acting Classes in Perth – they hold low-key workshops in
Murdoch for fledgling beginners up to advanced private coaching. When you’re
ready to audition, make sure to visit theatrepeople.com.au for a comprehensive
list of open auditions in Perth.

The Black Swan Lab
Black Swan State Theatre Company is shaking things up in 2014 with the introduction of
the Black Swan Lab, the company’s creative and experimental little sibling. It’s a place
where pushing the boundaries and expectations of the theatre experience is highly
encouraged and new talent is fostered. Best of all, these plays are open to the public.
