No Lights No Lycra
“No matter how uninhibited you might think you dance at a nightclub or a bar, it’s
nothing compared to this,” says Casey Campbell on No Lights No Lycra’s dance party in
the dark. “It’s much more childlike, you do really silly things that you wouldn’t normally
do, like an embarrassing conga line or crazy twists and turns to classical music.” Casey
went to her first No Lights No Lycra in Melbourne expecting it to be a “a bit too hippy”.
Instead, she found down-to-earth people, dancing to unpretentious music and having
an amazing time. “It wasn’t until I was about five minutes in that I felt this shift... I felt
something happen and I started to really let go and enjoy myself in front of a group of
people I didn’t know.” It’s no wonder she decided to bring it to WA in a North Perth
chapel. Since then it’s spread through WA to Fremantle, Margaret River, and Esperance,
as well as international cities such as Brooklyn, Paris and Shanghai. nolightsnolycra.com.
