Take a train ride
Winding along the banks of the Avon River
and through the nearby countryside, the
Toodyay Miniature Railway runs until November.

You’ll give your tastebuds a run for their money
in the Avon Valley, with fresh bread, cake and
biscotti to be found in New Norcia, baked in
the same oven used by the monks in 1866. If
wine is more appealing to your palate, ginger
wine is the specialty at Coorinja Vineyard in
Toodyay. The vineyard also produces dessert
wines, ports, sherries and muscats.
Float in the clouds
Many a Romeo has got down on one knee
during a spectacular hot-air balloon ride as
the sun rises over the Avon Valley. The
breathtaking experience isn’t just for romantics,
and is known to have left countless passengers

Explore the museums
The region has an assortment of museums,
including the Aeronautical Museum in
Beverley, the York Motor Museum, and the
New Norcia Museum and Art Gallery. A visitor

parade through the centre

The York Mill offers a slice of history and has the
largest regional art gallery in WA – an essential
Avon Valley stop. The gallery offers a range of
products including woodcrafts, glass works and
leather, to name just a few. Throughout the year
there are monthly exhibitions displaying the
work of WA artisans.
Have a sweet treat
When in York, make a beeline for Penny
Farthing Sweets, where you’ll be in sugar
paradise after setting eyes on the lip-smacking
range of local and imported sweets. The
antiquated store is decorated with ephemera
from the past, and its welcoming owners, Linda
and Garry, are always happy to chat about the
memorabilia and lollies on offer.
