Perth Guide 49
Why not take up this thrilling
hobby during winter? Tracks
and maps can be sussed out on
the WA Mountain Bike Association
and Aus Outdoor websites.
MUNDA BIDDI TRAIL, MUNDARING |
The 1000km, world-class track begins at the
Mundaring Sculpture Park and is easily accessible
by car. The trail features vast areas of unspoiled
bushland and if you keep your eyes peeled you’ll
spot rarely sighted, native wildlife.
KALAMUNDA CIRCUIT, PERTH
HILLS | The 22km circuit takes roughly 90 minutes
for intermediates, but allow two hours for learners.
There are a few track options to test riders of
all levels. The surface varies from super rocky to
slippery pea gravel, and is best ridden after rainfall
when the ground is compact
FORSYTH’S MILL, SAWYERS VALLEY |
The 6km track is most enjoyable for middle-range
riders but it’s not a bad track for beginners, just
a lot slower. Shrubs and trees closely line the track
and are literally everywhere – make sure you watch
out for them to avoid eating gravel. And bring
the kids along – there is also a child-friendly loop
near the car park.
Hit the hills with a loved one and see
the spectacular sights from some of
WA’s best viewpoints.
LION’S LOOKOUT WALK TRAIL | This 4km
walk includes panoramic views of Bickley Reservoir
and the city. There are steep descents and strenuous
climbs, so leave the picnic basket at home. Be
warned, the trail is well used, so you might get an
audience if you pause for some... canoodling.
LESMURDIE FALLS BUSH WALK
LOOKOUT | Take a short stroll along the walk trail
to the viewing platform, which boasts impressive sights
from the top of the falls. Crack open the champers at
the top and toast the views (and yourselves!).
NORTH LEDGE LOOKOUT | After a short
walk through the Darling Range National Park
visitors will be delighted with the stunning views of
Mundaring Weir. Make sure you wear appropriate
footwear because the route involves uphill walking.
Give yourself a winter break at
a peaceful location in the hills.
ANNASHA DAY SPA RETREAT | Plan
a sneaky getaway with the girls, and enjoy a quick
pamper or a daylong extravagance. For expecting
mums, there are pregnancy-specific treatments such
as Mum To Be Foot Heaven.
KALAMUNDA WELLNESS CENTRE |
Whether you can’t sleep or you’d like to try your hand
at meditation, you’ll be in good hands here. And if
you’re not keen on chiros but love naturopathy, there
is a range of specialists available to treat all niggles.
BELARA SPRINGS PILATES STUDIO &
FOREST CHALET | This multi-faceted operation
offers Pilates classes and also a stunning two-storey
chalet. Best of all, the Pilates classes take a maximum
of four people.
