Perth Guide 61
These school holidays, bundle up
the brood for some family fun.
CAMELOT CAMELS | Have your city kids seen
it all? Try something a little exotic, like camel riding
in the country. Set on four hectares in Kalamunda,
the Camel Farm is an awesome way to get the kids
out of their comfort zone. A tearoom plus barbecue
and picnic facilities will round out the day.
ARALUEN GARDENS | Araluen Botanic Park
hosts holiday activities to keep the sprites smiling,
such as discovery trails, clay modelling, and craft
classes. Alternatively, bring along supplies for a
barbecue lunch, then ride the train and enjoy the
gardens at your leisure.
CYCLE TRACK MUNDARING | Mundaring
is home to a huge collection of bike circuits and
trails. From gentle rides to mountain-bike parks,
it’s a surefire way to tire out the tykes.
Weekend markets are a specialty in the
region – let the trinket hunting begin!
KALAMUNDA FARMERS MARKETS |
The proximity of so many local farms guarantees that
you’ll be buying the freshest fruit, vegies and meat.
Growers will also happily chat about the best way to
prepare your purchases. Every Sunday, 8am–noon.
MUNDARING SUNDAY MARKETS |
On the second Sunday of every month, Nichol Street
swells with nearly 100 stalls displaying the best arts,
crafts, plants, garden products, trinkets and gifts.
You definitely won’t leave empty-handed!
BYFORD COUNTRY MARKETS |
These country markets run the gamut from jars
of homemade jam to livestock for your backyard;
there’s even live music for more entertainment.
Third Saturday of the month, 8 .30am–noon.
The arts and culture offerings in
the country are second to none.
MUNDARING | Mundaring Arts Centre will
present its 2013 exhibition program this autumn.
Featuring works by local artists, including painting,
sculpture and contemporary jewellery, you may just
find that special piece for your home collection.
ROLEYSTONE | The not-for-profit community
Roleystone Theatre puts on five major shows per
year. In April, the black comedy A Month of Sundays
will tickle your funny bone.
DARLINGTON | Each year Darlington Chamber
Music presents a series of classical concerts in the
intimate settings of Darlington Hall. Followed by
an afternoon tea and the opportunity to meet
the performers, the 2013 concert series should
be a welcome addition to your social calendar.
