A FOLKB WORLD EVENT
the 24th fairbridge festival 15-17 april 2016
“Another fabulous musical voyage of discovery
packed with exotic treasures.”
Rod Vervest, Artistic Director.
THREE MAGICAL DAYS
2016 will kick off in style with the likes
of A+ visitors Alpine, Bloc Party,
Courtney Barnett, Django Django, Foals,
and on through the alphabetical list of
massive names. Yet you’d be remiss
not to lock into your phone app a date
with a heap of locals. WA’s own Birds Of
Tokyo, HWLS, Koi Child, Death Disco
DJs, Funk Club DJs, Pilerats DJs and
once-native Meg Mac will ensure you
’gram the term #musicbender multiple
times across the weekend.
Sir Stewart Bovell Park, Busselton,
Once again a lineup summing up indie
perfection, but this time Perth’s own
Methyl Ethel has scored a coveted
spot on the national touring bill, along
with epic company Grimes, Hermitude
and Chvrches. No doubt a highlight
of Laneway is what goes down in the
‘little lanes’ too, with local surprises set
to delight. Keep an eye on the Path to
Laneway comp, with past winners Flower
Drums, Dianas and KUČKA all having
been propelled on to bigger things.
Fremantle Esplanade, Feb 14.
FRINGE WORLD &
While local music acts generally take
a back seat during this pair of arts-
focused fests, you can find us having
the most fun in the front row – aka the
dancefloor. PIAF’s new Chevron Festival
Gardens will tantalise late-nighters, with
local DJs keeping the night going – that
said, the locals supporting the touring
acts are carefully selected and worth
getting through the gates early for. The
Fringe festival playgrounds, meanwhile,
are always programmed with perfect
music for sipping cool drinks in the night
air. The only question is: what happens
when you want to go to both?
Fringe World: Jan 22-Feb 21; Perth
International Arts Festival: Feb 12-Mar 6.
Oh, summer. You have so much musical goodness,
we don’t even know where to start. So we called in
reinforcements: Aarom Wilson, the aural oracle from
WAM (West Australian Music), does the hard yards,
telling us the local lineups we can’t miss this summer.
St Jerome’s Laneway Festival.
