FOOD & WINE
We recommend this class for people who don’t take
their cooking seriously. The chocolate fudge cake
decorated like a fruit basket sure would be fun to
make. If it doesn’t turn out as planned, we imagine it
would be an excellent addition to Pinterest fails.
Sweet Artist Academy, Jan 20.
Is there anything more romantic than learning
the culinary art of French Bistro? Yep, there is –
doing it on Valentine’s Day. We’ll be trying this
class with our significant others while comparing
bad French accents. Ooh la la! Cooking Professor,
FAST AND SIMPLE PASSION
Okay, it sounds like they mean a quickie in the bush. But
get your mind out of the gutter and into the galley – this
is perfect for anyone pressed for time (so, er, everyone?)
You’ll learn to make Asian steamed snapper, handmade
gnocchi, Thai chilli chicken with basil, and chocolate and
hazelnut puddings – each in less than half an hour. All
the more time for the important stuff – like The Bachelor
re-runs on the couch. Urban Provider, Feb 23.
We admit, at first we thought raw food was just
a passing trend. But it seems the underdone
just can’t be overdone, with demand for raw food
and its glow-inducing benefits ever-growing. We’re
secretly hoping this class at Freo’s Raw Kitchen will
make us as gorgeous as the people who work there.
Raw Kitchen, ongoing.
FACEBOOK MARKETING CLASS
If you have a small business but insist on referring
to social networking as ‘The Facebook’, you need
this course. Pronto. Learn how to use Facebook for
advertising, engagement and exposure by creating,
scheduling and monitoring posts.
South Perth Library, Jan 20.
Melodically and rhythmically challenged? Signature
riff Smoke on the Water? Think jams only come in jars?
You need to sign up for this class, stat. The world-
renowned seminar is actually pretty amazing – in
three days you’ll learn notes, chords, scales, blues
and jazz improvisation, and how to read any piece
of written music. It’s been going strong for fifteen
years for a reason – it works.
Zig Zag Cultural Centre, Feb 6-8 .
Is your travel photography all thumb marks and
boring landmarks? Never fear: this inspiring
course will teach you to take
your travel snapshots to the
next level. Designed for
the folk that already
way around an
SLR in manual
class will get
wildlife. Now, to
book that flight....
Central Slice, Feb 7.
SPORTS & OUTDOORS
HIP HOP/PARTY GROOVES
Although we’re already cringing at how lame
we’ll look hip hop dancing, we’re going to commit
anyway. Why? It’s fast-paced, fun, and if we squint
our eyes hard enough, we can almost imagine we
look kind of cool popping and krumping.
The Dance Workshop, ongoing.
WEDDING DANCE CLASSES
The cheeky Snowball butt grab won’t be funny in
front of your bride’s parents. To ensure you don’t
get any scathing looks (or cause any bloody toes),
sign up for this class and learn how to nail the
wedding waltz. It’s as easy as 1-2 -3 .
Cutler’s Dance Club, ongoing.
ARTS & CRAFTS
PRIVATE PRINTED TEA
The tea towel is the Cinderella of linens: it dries up your
messes so humbly you forget it’s actually quite attractive. This
class, which requires five or more to sign up, will teach you to
screen-print tea towels that are so pretty you can literally turn
them from rags to riches. You can use your creation to wipe
your dishes in style, hang in a frame, whip your annoying
friend... the possibilities are endless! StudiOH!, ongoing.
Your smalls can rack up (heh) a hefty pricetag. Invest in this
class and learn to sew French knickers, briefs, camisoles and
a bra with bias binding, lace, elastics and adjustable straps.
That old bra? Burn it! Central Slice, from Feb 4.
DIY CARVED STAMPS
They’re a step up from the ones that you made out
of potatoes in primary school, but they’re every bit
as adorable. In this class you’ll use carving tools to
create a set of three rubber stamps – then get stamping
on wrapping paper, cards and decorations. Central
Slice, Feb 7.
And here you were thinking all that drunken dancing
was pure frivolity. Now, you can claim it as training
for your new sport. Having a boogie after necking
a beer? That’s athletics we can get behind.
Jive Rock and Roll, ongoing.
