TINA DEL TWIST
Wes Snelling’s Tina Del Twist offers an experience
most critics can sum up in one word: fabulous. Don’t
miss the eccentric singer belting out the blues at
Fringe. De Parel Spiegeltent, Feb 4-8 .
Queens of Drag City
Australia’s most bawdy and fabulous drag queens
are strutting their way to the big smoke in Queens
of Drag City, following a 74-stop tour of remote
Australia with its prequel, Queens of the Outback.
Producer Andrew Malouf says the show fits no set
category. “It’s like a cross between a male revue
show, a female revue show and a drag show,”
says Andrew. Between the raunchy girls, hunky
guys and three drag queens, there’s something
for everyone. “For the girls or the guys, the cocks
or the frocks, there’s non-stop laughs,” he says.
The queens return to their former palace – the
now dilapidated Gayhound Hotel – and learn of its
imminent closure. When an ensuing night on the
town ends in jail (once again), the trio decides to
go their separate ways. From rehab, to New York
City, to a stint in the corporate world, Simoana
Luvzit, Emma Roids and Frayda Cocks reunite to
open their own club, Drag City. The cast, dotted
with stand-up comedians and big names in Aussie
theatre, will have you bent over with laughter.
Audience beware: participation is obligatory
and dancing shoes are highly recommended.

YANA ALANA – BETWEEN THE CRACKS
After two years away, Australia’s own Helpmann Award-winning cabaret starlet and dysfunctional provocateur Yana
Alana returns with a raw, heartfelt and hilarious performance in Between The Cracks. Yana has gathered passionate
supporters in her hometown of Melbourne, and believes such a fanbase could spread throughout the entire nation.
“She’s the kind of diva that gets a cult-like following,” says Sarah Ward, Yana’s real-life alter ego. For Sarah, Yana
is a “manifestation of all her dysfunctions, blown up and celebrated”. The self-loving, self-centered and ballsy diva
explores a softer side to her complex character – since her last show in Perth, Yana has returned from rehab, but is still
feeling quite blue – literally. To reflect this, costume designer Adrian Chism suggested she perform completely nude,
covered in blue body paint. Although hesitant at first, Sarah decided it was an important accompaniment to her fluid
and multi-dimensional stage persona. “It just made perfect sense,” says Sarah. “I’m blue as in I’m naked, and I’m blue
as in I’m depressed.” She says the one-woman show, accompanied by ex-bandmate and classical jazz pianist Louise
Goh, “calls on people’s humanity, and asks them to be respectful” of Yana’s full-frontal nudity and mental weaknesses.

November has become something of a pride month in Perth, with PrideFest’s boisterous parade and Celebration
Day, among many others. However, the LGBTI community spirit does not retreat after this month of springtime fun –
following the success of last year’s February FairDay, Pride WA is spreading the love throughout the whole year. Pride
WA committee member Graham Lovelock says FairDay is a crucial part of the events calendar because of its family
focus – it encourages picnicking, dancing and laughter in abundance, and the crowd can enjoy live entertainment,
stalls and food throughout the day. Everyone is welcome, but Graham says there is one non-negotiable: “Anybody that
participates in FairDay has to have a message of support for the LGBTI community”. Hyde Park, Feb 16.
