LIGHTHOUSE TO LEIGHTON
This intense 19km race from Rottnest Island to Leighton
Beach is back for its fifth year and packed to the brim
with colour, excitement, entertainment and some insane
kiting maneuvers. “It looks very cool when you have 100
kites appearing on the horizon,” says last year’s race
winner, Marvin Baumeister. “It’s amazing to see how fast
they are going.” The fastest finishing time for this race
stands at 23 minutes and 50 seconds and is held by
Marvin – just the thought of that makes our legs hurt.
“It’s incredibly physically demanding,” Marvin says. “It
becomes mind over matter and you just have to push
your body through it.” Those waiting comfortably on
the shore will be treated to kiting demos, freestyle tricks
and jumps, and activities for the kids to teach them the
importance of water safety. Fun and educational – what
more could you want? How about an awesome beach
party with Red Bull’s Monster DJ truck? Oh yeah, that will
be there, too. Leighton Beach, Nov 29-30.
