MEET THE COMEDIAN:
He rep’d our great state in the RAW Comedy
National Grand Final in Melbourne this year, and was
the winner of Funny Faces 2014, so it’s safe to say
Matt Storer knows a joke or two. We chat to the local
funnyman about his comedic experiences in Perth...

the audience to fuel their gags. Perth.

Hot off her 31-date tour of the US, Chelsea
Handler – most commonly known as the outspoken
host of her late-night talk show Chelsea Lately – is
heading down under. With her fearless honesty and
tongue-in-cheek commentary, the comedian talks
about her favourite travel stories and answers some
of the most asked travel questions. “I’ve decided
to go on tour and support my new book, Uganda Be
Kidding Me,” says Chelsea. “I think we all know how
much I love the sound of my own voice.” Be prepared
to watch the self-made cultural phenomenon shock
and awe on stage. Uganda Be Kidding Me, Perth
Concert Hall, Nov 23.
ANH DO: THE HAPPIEST REFUGEE – LIVE!
For those of you who have seen Anh Do live, you know to expect
a cheeky smile with every joke. Come listen as he tells the amazing
tale of his journey to Australia as a young boy and his rise to become
one of Australia’s most loved comedians. Full of stories about his
childhood, photos of his family, and film clips that show him being
tackled by large rugby players, it’s guaranteed to have you in stitches,
all the while tugging at your heartstrings. Perth Convention and
Exhibition Centre, Nov 15.
What, in your mind, makes a great comedian?
The most important thing is stage presence. You have
to own the stage and make the audience believe you
belong there. If you’re comfortable, they’re comfortable.
If you have fun, they’ll have fun.
What are your thoughts on the Perth comedy scene?
Perth’s comedy scene is incredibly impressive for a city
our size and its only getting better. This place is bursting
with comedic talent of every style and level. So many
incredible comics have come from Perth and there are
plenty more on the way up.
What was your favourite gig?
This year’s West Australian RAW Grand Final was
amazing. His Majesty’s Theatre was packed and
the crowd came ready to laugh. The feeling backstage
was electric and everybody did so well. I’ll never
forget that one.
You probably hate this question but can you
tell us a joke?
You’re right. I do hate this question. But here’s
one of my favourites:
The Lord said unto John, “Come forth
and receive eternal life.”
But John came fifth and won a toaster.
Christen O’Leary hilariously portrays six different
women at their wits’ end. There will be singing,
dancing, laughter and uncompromising honesty.
Caution: ladies, you may recognise yourselves on
stage. Subiaco Arts Centre, Oct 23-30.
